Main research areas:
1. Studying physical-and-chemical fundamentals of biological system organization;
2. Studies of plant and animal life. Investigating issues of the sustainable use of living resources.
Scientific schools:
1. Biology and ecology of marine marginal communities under conditions of anthropogenic impact (headed by Yu. P. Zaitsev, Dr. of Biological Sciences, Prof., NAS academician).
2. Faunistic and ecological study of the Black Sea meiobenthos (headed by L. V. Vorobyova, Dr. of Biological Sciences, senior researcher).
3. Sclerochronology of marine invertebrates (headed by V. M. Zolotariov, Dr. of Biological Sciences, senior researcher).
4. Morphological-and-functional ecology of aquatic vegetation (headed by G. H. Minicheva, Dr. of Biological Sciences, senior researcher).
5. Bioenergetics of hydrobionts and aquatic ecosystems (headed by B. G. Alexandrov, Dr. of Biological Sciences, senior researcher).
Research results of the international level:
Establishing fundamental laws governing the formation of biological diversity and functioning of marginal communities in marine ecosystems (aerocontour, lithocontour, psammocontour, phytocontour).
The following projects are proposed for joint research and commercialization:
1. Determining fish productivity of water bodies and methods of predicting its changes.
2. A method for determining the set of morphological-and-functional indices of unicellular and multicellular forms of aquatic vegetation.
3. A method for calculating the surface of hydrotechnical structures with a maximum biopositive effect and self-purifying capacity.
