The Department of Biotechnical Problems of Diagnostics is a research institution functioning within the Bureau of the Department of molecular biology, biochemistry, experimental and clinical physiology of NAS of Ukraine. The scientific and methodological supervision of its activities is provided by the Institute for Cryobiology and Cryomedicine Problems.
Principal research areas of the Department are:
– Studying certain mechanisms of postnatal morphogenesis in experimental productive processes;
– Studying structurally functional properties of blood proteins in experimental carcinogenesis and other pathologies, with a view to developing specific diagnostic methods;
– Research into molecular-and-genetic changes in somatic cells for evaluating individual risk of carcinogenesis and developing new methods of diagnostics of genetically caused hypersensibility to DNA-related factors.
Studies of spectral features of blood proteins and its fractions have shown that if a malignant tumour is present in an organism, essential differences in IR spectra are observed. IR spectra characterize spatial structure of lyophilized proteins, which, in turn, is an effect of quantitative and qualitative differences in accommodation of -SH bunches in a protein molecule.
The method of blood IR-spectroscopy can be used in clinical oncology in a complex of advanced methods of diagnostics of malignant mamma neoplasms. IR-spectroscopy studies of the blood of patients with malignant tumours of various histogenesis will in the future allow it to be applied to early diagnostics of malignant tumours of different localizations. Fundamental research results have been obtained in the development of biotechnical methods of diagnosing human diseases (including oncologic ones).
