The main areas of Institutes research activities are:
studying the mechanisms of cryodamage, cryoprotection, natural resistance of biological objects to cold and their reparation after cold effect;
creation of efficient ways of induced cryoprotection in biological systems of various levels of organization and development of techniques for cryopreservation of biological objects on their basis, as well as technical means for their application;
use of hypothermia, cryotherapy and cryopreserved biological objects for treating various diseases;
cell and tissue transplantation.
The following science schools function at the Institute:
1. Problems of cryobiology and cryomedicine of reproduction systems, cell and tissue therapy.
2. Cryobiochemistry of membrane structures and cell cytoskeleton.
3. Immunity biology issues of low-temperature preservation and use of biological objects.
4. Low-temperature biophysics, cryoprotectants.
5. Experimental cryomedicine, neurophysiology.
Developments proposed for joint introduction to practice:
cryopreservation technique of sperm and embryos of fishes, birds, mammals and programmable freezing apparatuses for its implementation;
a technology of extreme cryotherapy and hypothermia for treating various diseases;
pre-sowing treatment of seeds;
a technology of obtaining, long-term preservation and use of immune biological preparations derived from human and animal foetoplacental complex;
technologies for low-temperature preservation and use of blood cells, that do not require washing-out;
IVF techniques.
