The core competences of the Institute are:

– studies of the systematic position, physiological-and-biochemical properties of various microorganisms and the development of scientific fundamentals for developing new biotechnological preparations and products;

– investigation of molecular-and-biological and genetic principles of microorganism and virus functioning and determining mechanisms of their vital activity in nature and in living organisms.

The Institute has the following science schools:

1. molicutology;

2. the Ukrainian school of streptomycetes genetics;

3. microbial biotechnology.

The developments proposed for commercialization:

– preparations for agriculture:

SUBALIN, ENDOSPORIN, BOVILAKT, BIFIDIM, LACTOSAN, FITOSPORIN, AZOTOBAKTERIN, NITRAGIN, BTF (bio-peat fertilizer), granulated preparations of nitrogen-fixing bacteria, avermectines;

– drugs for medicine:

BIOSPORIN, SUBALIN, BATUMIN, CERBIDEN, BETA-CAROTENE, KAREFOL, KAROFLAV, GALAKTOXOOXIDAZA, GLUKOZOOXIDAZA, bacterial lectins, DIASTAF, MYCOMELANIN, a new production technology for human natural gamma-interferon;

– preparations for industry:

STREPTOSAN ferment, LAKTOGEROVIT, GEROSAN ferment, KSAMPAN, ‘EPAA’ ENPOSAN, BIOLAT glue;

– environment protection technologies:

DESNA biopreparation, RODOIL, MBK, a method for assessing biocorrosion soil activity with respect to underground metal structures, methods of laboratory bioresistance tests.
