Principal study areas:

– basic research to develop experimental and theoretical fundamentals for formulating new drugs in the optimum medicinal forms and basic research on quality of drugs;

– search for and study of the structure of biologically active substances (BAS) produced from various kinds of natural raw materials or synthetic compounds; development of medicinal preparations on this basis and their introduction to production;

– conducting preclinical (pharmaceutical, pharmacological, pharmaco-kinetic, toxicological) studies of biologically active substances, biologically active additives, auxiliary substances, medicinal means, including preparations for animals etc.;

– developing advanced pollution-free technological processes for obtaining active substances and medicinal forms;

– research towards drawing up technological documentation and analytical normative documentation concerning commercialization of drugs.

The research is done by the following science schools:

– the school in phytochemistry (D. G. Kolesnikov, O. P. Prokopenko, V. T. Chernobay, Yu. V. Shostenko, V. S. Batyuk, M. F. Komissarenko, I. F. Makarevich, V. I. Litvinenko, V. M. Spiridonov, S. I. Dikhtyaryov);

– the school in developing patent drugs (F. A. Konev, B. Yu. Yasnitsky, M. Kh. Gluzman, G. S. Bashura, M. O. Kazarinov, M. V. Shteingardt, M. O. Lyapunov);

– the school in analysis and standardization of BAS and drugs (S. M. Bolotnikov, M. A. Izmailov, N. P. Dziuba, V. P. Georgievsky, O. I. Hryzodub);

– the school in pharmacology (M. A. Anharska, P. I. Bezruk, Ya. I. Khajay, H. V. Obolentseva, N. F. Maslova, L. O. Chayka).

These schools have developed and introduced to production over 450 medicinal preparations (among which 170 are original), obtained 377 documents of protection, of these 113 are patents of Ukraine and 46 – those of the Russian Federation. Every fourth preparation produced in independent Ukraine is a development of the Center.

The majority of competitive medicinal forms in Ukraine, including those new for domestic pharmacy (sprays, retarded pill forms, transcutaneous therapeutic systems, gels etc.) have been developed by Center’s technologists.

Its phytochemists have worked our scientific principles of isolating, purifying and synthesizing cardiac glicozides, bioflavonoids, alkaloids, ferments and other biologically active compounds (over 350), on whose basis 90 original plant preparations have been produced.

The Center proposes for joint R&D:

– development of technologies and analytical normative documentation;

– preclinical studies of BAS and medicinal preparations in the form of pills, dragees, granules, suppositories, ointments, creams, sprays etc., based on synthetic, biotechnological and natural compounds, in accordance with GMP and GLP requirements;

– author’s support and commercialization at production plants of Ukraine, Russia, CIS countries.
