The Inter-Agency Department of Electrochemical Energy Systems (IDEES) was set up by a joint resolution of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Defence Ministry of Ukraine, the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering, Military-Industrial Complex and Conversion of Ukraine of June 19, 1996, ¹108/384/384.
IDEES is headed by V. D. Prisyazhny, NAS corresponding member, Prof., Dr. Chem., George Spacu Prize Winner (Romanian Academy of Sciences).
The main area of IDEES activities is fundamental and applied research into problems of electrochemical power, development on this basis of new technological processes and designs, production of prototypes and pilot series of wide range of chemical current sources intended for both general economy and special purposes, equipment and devices for their manufacture, of other engineering devices and novel materials, an expert assessment of works in this area.
IDEES provides interaction of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine (R&D Committee), the Ministry for Industrial Policy of Ukraine (‘Electronprylad’) and other state agencies of Ukraine with associations, joint-stock companies, private companies which work in this field.
The Department is a leading organization responsible for initiating, correcting, implementing and engineering level of works under the inter-branch program ‘Progress of production of accumulators, chemical current sources and materials for their manufacturing in Ukraine’. It takes part in drawing up the law of Ukraine ‘On chemical current sources’ and the National program of development of chemical current sources. IDEES is a co-founder of the Research Institute of Chemical Current Sources on the basis of NAS research potential and ‘Luhansk Accumulators’ joint stock company.
The postgraduate studies of IDEES train specialists in electrochemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry. In the period of IDEES existence, 8 Ph.D. theses have been supported. IDEES employs a NAS corresponding member, 6 doctors of sciences, 10 candidates of sciences.
IDEES scientists lecture in leading educational institutions: ‘KPI’ National Technical University of Ukraine, the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. It provides on a regular basis research practice for students of these establishments and Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University.
From 1994 to 2005 nearly 510 scientific papers and publications were issued, 4 patents for inventions and a trade mark were obtained, IDEES scientists made presentations at 25 international and Ukrainian conferences.
IDEES is a member of the Ukrainian association of manufacturers of chemical current sources ‘Power Sources of Ukraine’. It won the honorary diploma of the first Ukrainian specialized exhibition ‘Chemical sources of current. Kyiv-2002’. IDEES collaborates with the World Institute of Technologies (Republic of Korea) in the development of the technology to manufacture active materials for lithium-ionic accumulators.
