Institute’s research activities are aimed at:

– studying structure-properties relationships of supramolecular compounds and developing directed synthesis of biologically active substances (psychotropic, immunotropic, antiviral, anti-aggregation), reagents, metal-complex catalysts, sensors etc;

– inorganic and analytical chemistry of substances for optical electronics and optical materials science.

The following science schools are active at the Institute:

– Odessa scientific school in organic, bioorganic and supramolecular chemistry (founded by Prof. A. V. Bogatsky, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR;

– Odessa scientific school in analytical chemistry (founded by Prof. N. S. Poluektov, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and Prof. V. A. Nazarenko, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.

The Institute offers for commercial production:

– medicinal agents: ‘Cinazepam’ – a hypnotic, tranqulizing and anticonvulsant preparation; ‘Immobilized Elastoteraza’;

– a variety of inorganic materials for optics and optical electronics, methods for the analysis of rare-metal materials, State standard samples of content;

– theoretical methods and programs for predicting functional properties of molecules by molecular structure data (bilogical activity, complexation, liquid-crystal properties, thermodynamical properties).
