The Institute of Engineering Thermophysics does research primarily in such areas:

– thermophysical studies of processes in heat power equipment with using conventional and renewable energy sources and development of methods to improve its efficiency, reliability and environmental safety;

– development of heat transfer theory and its application to improve the efficiency of heat transfer and use in machines and equipment of advanced facilities;

– studies of heat-and-substance transfer theory to improve the efficiency of available power– and resource-saving thermal technologies and develop novel ones;

– investigations of the theory of measuring thermal values and its application for developing new thermophysical devices and systems to improve the metrological provision of power and other thermal-engineering equipment.

The following science schools work at the Institute:

– Heat-and-mass transfer in heat technologies (founded by NAS academicians O. O. Kremniev and A. A. Dolinsky);

– Thermophysical instrument engineering (founded by NAS corresponding member O. A. Heraschenko).

Developments proposed for cooperative commercialization:

– co-generation technologies;

– hot-water boilers;

– heat utilizers for boilers and industrial furnaces;

– boiler burners;

– high-temperature vacuum furnaces;

– vortex air coolers;

– vacuum homogenizers;

– rotor homogenizers, mixers, apparata for dissolving loose and liquid media;

– heat technologies and equipment for obtaining soy-bean-based products;

– mini bakeries;

– drying technologies and equipment for producing fruit and vegetable powders;

– technologies and equipment for spray drying (dryers, concentrators etc.);

– technologies and equipment for producing extracts, ointments, gels;

– technologies of pectin production;

– thermopysical devices, control and optimization systems:

heat flow meters, calorimeters, indicators for diagnostics of heating mains, analyzers of fuel-burning and flue gases quality, equipment for instrument control of thermal resistance of protecting structures and heat conductivity of construction materials, flame-control units, boiler-protection units, a computer system for automatic control of industrial boiles;

– analyzers and minilabs for assessing the quality of grain crops.
