Core competences of the Department are:

1. theoretical studies of magnetic nanostructures based on various semiconductor compounds, intended for application in spintronics;

2. developing the technology of growing ordered arrays of quantum dots in quasi-equilibrium conditions;

3. a technology of preparation and comprehensive studies of narrow-gap semiconductors and respective solid solutions doped with elements of varying valence – promising materials for applications in optoelectronics;

4. development of state-of-the-art nanotechnologies and investigations of nanoparticles, nanotubes and quantum dots based on layered crystals;

5. R&D of lithium-ion power sources, super-high-capacitance supercapacitors of a new generation and radiation-resistant heterojunctions based on layered crystals.
