Principal study areas:

– fundamental issues of geology and mineral resources of the World Ocean and the Azov-Black Sea province;

– studies of the Earth crust under seas and oceans, development of the geosynclinal model of the Carpathian-Crimean-Black Sea region;

– studying sedimentation and ore formation processes in the seas and oceans;

– geology and scientific principles of environment and Earth entrails protection, efficient use of natural resources;

– museum studies, geological rarities.

The following science schools work at the Department:

– marine geology and mineral resources of the World Ocean;

– environment protection;

– geodynamic numerical modeling.

The department proposes for joint completion and introduction to practice:

– prospecting and exploitation of mineral resources of the Black sea bottom (sapropel, mason’s sands, fresh water, gas hydrates), the Azov sea bottom (Cimmerian iron ores, boron, gold-bearing sands, medicine mud);

– semi-precious stones in sedimentary complexes of Ukraine;

– geo-environmental studies;

– iron-manganese nodules from the World ocean;

– studying natural anomalous phenomena that can affect navigation within the Ukrainian economic zone in the Black sea-Azov sea region.
