The Centre of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer is a special NAS institution conducting research into copyright and patent law, transfer of technology, investments.
The Centre co-ordinates activities of 86 intellectual property departments of the institutes, design institutions and pilot plants within the National Academy of Sciences and provides legal, patent services to the institutes, firms, investors, industrial and technological enterprises, authors and scientists.
It carries out research into law regulation of the international and internal transfer of technology in Ukraine; law regulation of Internet activities, protection of computer software and data bases; WTO and WIPO regulation of intellectual property protection; EU IPR Law.
Lawyers of the Centre provide advisory support, take part in working out of draft laws and regulations, including Civil Code of Ukraine, Copyright Law of Ukraine, collaborate with the Committees of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ministry of Justice, State Department of Intellectual Property and Copyright Agency of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Ukraine and other government bodies.
The Centre provides information on international research programs; coordinates activities of the National Contact Points network towards supporting Ukrainian scientists participation in the EU scientific programs. Besides, the Centre exercises functions of the Secretariat of Consultative Council on the issues of intellectual property protection and technology transfer of the International Association of Academies of Sciences.
The Centre possess significant experience in cooperation with foreign and international organizations on implementing results of scientific research and:
- carries out legal expertise of contracts, helps in working out draft agreements; assists in courts and arbitration judgement execution; prepares documents and carries out registration of corporate businesses, including venture small enterprises, joint ventures;
- prepares drafts of technology transfer and licensing agreements on the use of intellectual property; provides advisory services on investments projects;
- provides copyright protection (books, computer programs, data bases, film and video productions, audio recordings); provides state registration of copyrights, software and data bases rights;
- provides patent services, provides patenting of trademarks.
The Centre is an evaluative organization certified by the State Property Fund of Ukraine with considerable experience in evaluation of the intellectual property, business, evaluation of investments of foreign firms into the enterprises, which is necessary in accordance with the Ukrainian law.
