The Southern Science Center (SSC) was set up for increasing the role of science in working out and implementing efficient regional policy in Ukraine, focused on combining nation-wide and regional interests. It is a science institution financed by the state budget, which directs efforts of scholars of the Southern region of Ukraine, irrespective of their academic specialization and departmental subordination, towards addressing integrated regional problems of inter-agency nature, it also invites experts from other regions to take part in their solution.
NAS Presidium set the following priorities for SSC:
– Normalizing the ecosystem status and rationalizing the nature use in the Northwest of the Black Sea region;
– Ensuring the sustainable development of the marine-economy infrastructure of the region and its strategically important functions on the sea;
– Preservation, rational use and protection of the Dnister basin resources.
To provide preconditions for introducing state-of-the-art R&D results to the nation’s economy, SSC, jointly with Odessa State Information-Center for Science, Technology and Economy and the Council of Odessa Universities Rectors, issued an information catalogue «INNOVATIONS – for the SOUTHERN REGION». It informs on the most promising R&D products of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (institutions located in other regions of Ukraine), as well as those of research institutions of NAS and of various Odessa universities and institutes.
