The Institute of Applied Problems of Physics and Biophysics was set up in 1998 by the Resolution of NAS Presidium ¹ 49 of February25, 1998 ‘On Reorganizing SONAR R&D Centre of Biotechnical Systems into the NAS Institute of Applied Problems of Physics and Biophysics’. The SONAR Center of Biotechnical Systems was established in 1989 by a joint resolution of NAS Presidium and the USSR State Committee on Science and Technology.
Principal research areas of the Institute are:
– physics of laser systems and technologies;
– physical phenomena in biological structures.
The developments proposed for commercialization:
– a laser perforator for protecting securities;
– hydrobionic technologies of underwater searches and study of hydrosphere environment;
– technologies for emergency underwater neutralization of submerged toxic agents and decontamination of marine water areas;
– new diagnostic methods for determining iron content in human organism;
– low-temperature ESR spectrometer for determining the content of iron, including non-hemic one, in biological samples;
– a photoplethysmography system for diagnostics of cardiovascular system;
– a method to improve the efficacy of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of oncological diseases.
