The International School of Ukrainian Studies (ISUS) is an educational and research center under the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences and Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University. It was established in 1990 on the initiative of the Association of Ukrainian Studies as a basis for international academic research projects and training of a new generation of scholars in this field of studies. It is intended for a broad range of young researchers, post-graduate and university students both in Ukraine and abroad.

Leading scholars of NAS and Kyiv T. Shevchenko National University are members of its academic council.

The main forms of ISUS education are:

– an intensive 4-week session in July-August covering a broad range of subjects in Ukrainian studies and a practical course of the Ukrainian language. The Summer School usually involves about 50 participants from Europe and America;

– consultations for scholars, teachers, undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students on different aspects of Ukrainian studies;

– academic fellowship for postgraduate students and scholars (academic research, work at Kyiv libraries, consultation with specialists from the Academy of Sciences and Kyiv University).

Besides academic classes, the Summer Session embraces a wide programme of the first-hand view of historical, cultural and scientific institutions of Kyiv, visits to museums, historical places and trips outside Kyiv to see well-known memorial sites of Kaniv, Chernihiv, Uman, organized for all participants of session in accordance with their wish.

ISUS conducts academic research in traditional Ukrainian studies – language, literature, history, folklore, comparative studies, methods of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language, as well as in present-day areas of philology, art etc. ISUS systematically works out materials for learning Ukrainian by foreigners: programmes, textbooks, reading and reference books.

Serial edition «Ukrainian Studies» (issues 1-4), published in 2002-2003, is an ISUS contribution to the development of this field of studies and dissemination of Ukrainian as a foreign language.

ISUS is open for collaboration with research and educational institutions in Ukraine and abroad.
