Main research areas:

1. features of rocks: rock massifs, their destruction and controlling of deflected mode;

2. physical features of technical processes in rocks and practices of minerals extraction and processing;

3. energy-transformation processes in coal and mine methane; parameters of power complexes functioning and their structure; energy saving and reliability of mining enterprises.

The following science schools function at the Institute:

– scientific school headed by NAS academician A.F.Bulat ‘Scientific fundamentals for solving fuel-and-energy problems by employing alternative technologies of combustible minerals extraction and deep processing’;

– scientific school headed by NAS academician V.N.Poturaev ‘Physical and mechanical elements of the theory of vibration machines and processes and methods of their calculations; problems of minerals classification during their extraction and processing’;

– scientific school headed by NAS academician V.F.Prysnyakov ‘Transitional processes with phase transformation of working medium’;

– scientific school headed by NAS corresponding member E.I.Yefremov ‘Explosion mechanics and environmental reliability of the technology for controllable explosive destruction of rocks’.

Projects proposed for commercialization:

1. a technology of support-anchor bolting of cooperative implementation rocks;

2. a device for measuring air-motion speed in indoor premises and rocks, including premises and rocks with a risk of gas and dust explosion;

3. a technology of combined degassing of coal-containing massifs and a technology for detecting areas with accumulation of free methane;

4. classification techniques and technology for current practices of mineral concentration.
