The Institute conducts fundamental and applied research in the following areas: – dynamics of mechanical and hydromechanical systems, launch vehicle systems, railway and automobile transport; – aerothermogasdynamics of flight and space vehicles and their subsystems; – strength, reliability and optimization of mechanical systems, launch vehicles and spacecraft; – mechanics of the interaction of a solid body with ionized medium and electromagnetic radiation; – systems analysis of the tendencies and prospects in developing aerospace technology. Besides, the Institute carries out: – formulation of proposals for the National Space Program of Ukraine and other programs towards the development of aerospace engineering; – analysis of the prospects for developing and using aerospace systems; – expert examination of space programs and projects, analysis of the results of tests of aerospace technologies; – feasibility studies for aerospace programs. The research results obtained have been used for finding solutions to major problems of creation and operation of the ‘Tsyklon’, ‘Dnipro’, ‘Zenit’ launch vehicles, including ‘Zenit-3SL’, ‘Cosmos’ and ‘Sich’ series satellites. The following science schools have been formed and successfully function at the Institute – dynamics of mechanical and hydraulical systems of flight vehicles; optimization of mechanical systems, launch vehicles and their reliability, durability, strength under extreme conditions; – statistic dynamics of moving mechanical systems (means of transportation); – aerothermogasplasmadynamics of flight vehicles and spacecraft. Some scientific works of the Institute have gained international recognition: investigations into hydrodynamic cavitation, including pumps of liquid propulsion systems, aerodynamics and plasmadynamics of flight vehicles, statistic dynamics of surface transport etc. The Institute proposes for commercialization: – technologies of protection against vibration action of various products and systems; – a technology for improving efficiency in vibration drilling; – a cavitation-impulse technology of suspension dispersion; – a technology for manufacturing antenna and waveguide devices in solar power engineering; – a technology for manufacturing microwave components and devices for systems of satellite communications and telecommunications.
