The Center for Humanitarian Education of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was founded in 1991(before – the Philosophy Chair, which was established in 1954). It is a state research and educational institution with the rights of legal entity, a state higer educational establishment of the 4th accreditation level. Scholarly and methodological supervision of the Center is provided by the Department of history, philosophy and law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The main tasks of Center are: scholarly and methodological backup to learning philosophy by post-graduate students and researchers of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in accordance with the programme of candidate examinations, organizing admittance examinations in philosophy for post-graduate candidates and candidate examinations in philosophy, training of high-degree research personnel in philosophy subjects through post-graduate and post-doctoral school, doing research, writing monographs, textbooks and delivering lectures in philosophy, philosophy and history of science, organizing seminars.

Annually, the Center provides teaching in philosophy to over 700 post-graduate students and candidates for a scientific degree – citizens of Ukraine and other countries.

The Center for Humanitarian Education has several subdivisions: the chair of philosophy, the chair of science philosophy and culture studies, branches at NAS Science Centers (in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Odessa, Kharkiv, in Sevastopol and Mykolaiv).

The laboratory of post-nonclassic methodologies works within the Center for Humanitarian Education. The Center publishes collections of academic writings, carries out research into issues of humanitarian expertise.
