The Institute does research into:
– issues of state formation and lawmaking in Ukraine: theory, history, practice;
– legal issues of democratization of social relationships, formation of civil society and establishment and implementation of human rights and freedoms;
– theoretical and practical issues of developing the law system in Ukraine;
– theoretical and practical issues of implementing the Constitution and legislation of Ukraine;
– Ukraine within the system of present-day international law order and European integration: theory and practice;
– issues of encyclopedic juridical studies, philosophy and sociology of law.
The Institute has the following academic schools:
– the school of environmental law (headed by NAS academician Yu. S. Shemshuchenko);
– the school of agrarian law (headed by NAS corresponding member V. I. Semchyk);
– the school of constitutional law (headed by NAS corresponding member V. F. Pogorilko);
– the school of administrative law (headed by a corresponding member of the Academy of Juridical Sciences of Ukraine V. B. Averyanov).
With a view to facilitating the process of informing the Ukrainian society, the Institute started to implement a project towards systematizing and generalizing information legislation of Ukraine and other states (CIS, Europe and Asia) through the publication of a multi-volume collection of information legislations, commentaries and fundamental monographs on those issues (the project is scheduled for 2005-2010).
