Principal study areas of the Brach are:

– archaeology and palaeoecology of the Stone Age in the Crimea;

– history, material culture, demography of the population of the Crimea during the Eneolithic and the Bronze Epochs;

– history and material culture of Taurians, nomadic Scythians, Late Scythian State, Sarmathians;

– ethnic history and culture of barbarian population of the Crimea during the Period of Late Antiquity;

– history and archaeology of ancient Greek cities of the Western (Chersonesus, Kerkinitis, Kalos, Limen) and Eastern Crimea (Panticapaion-Bosporus, late ancient Greek necropolis of Panticapaion); settlements of the South-Eastern and Eastern Crimea (Kutlak fortress, settlements in environs of Feodosia);

– ethnic history and archaeology of the population of the Early Mediaeval Crimea;

– history, archaeology, architecture, historical topography, military service of the state of Feodoro;

– Italian settlements of the Crimea: history, material culture, archaeology, architecture, topography, military service;

– history and archaeology of the Golden Horde, settlements of the Eastern, Western and Steppe Crimea.

Studies are carried out in collaboration with:

– V. I. Vernadsky Taurida National University (Simferopol). The work is conducted according to the planned subjects: ‘Revealing, investigating and systematizing archaeological sites of the Crimean Peninsula. Formation of the data base of historical-and-archaeological sites of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea. Electronic version’ and ‘The creation of electronic data base of historical-and-archaeological sites of maritime regions of the Crimean Peninsula’. The research is to be continued in the future;

– the work on revealing and studying the present status of archaeological sites in accordance with letters of inquiry of the Committee on Preserving and Using the Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
