Main areas of research work:

– scholarly preparation of fundamental archaeographic publications of historical sources on the Ukrainian history from the earliest times till the 21st century;

– publication of the intellectual heritage of Ukrainian scholars, public and political figures;

– investigations in the field of Ukrainian and world history.

The following research schools have been formed at the Institute:

– studies of the monuments of the Cossack age and the Ukrainian Cossack state of the 17-18th centuries;

– foreign sources on the Ukrainian history; sources on history of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church; on Ukraine cartography; on history of the national liberation movements in the 20th-century Ukraine.

Achievements of the international level are: publication of complete works by Mykhailo Hrushevsky in 50 volumes; fundamental documents publications:

– «Ukrainian Cossack Diplomatic Sources of the 16-18th Centuries»;

– «Archive of the New Zaporozhzha Sich’s Kish. Document Corpus of 1734-1775»;

– «UPA Chronicle. A new series».
