The Council for Ukraine Productive Forces Studies does research into three principal areas:
– studies of theoretical principles and basics of the development of productive forces of Ukraine. They form the basis for long-, medium– and short-term forecasts of development and accommodation of productive forces of Ukraine in general, its regions and oblasts, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol;
– studies of theoretical and practical issues of socio-economic and R&D progress of Ukraine and its regions under forming market relations in the context of sustainable development. Works in this area are used to substantiate ways and means of dealing with economic and social challenges;
– studies of the rational use of natural resources and environment preservation, working out of the scientific fundamentals of the sustainable development of the nation. Research results in this area are used for preparing scientific and practical recommendations concerning environmental safety and economic security of Ukraine.
As a theoretical and scientific methodology center, the Council coordinates research into these problems, carried out jointly with other academic institutions and universities of Ukraine, provides them with methodological and organizational support in research activities and training research personnel. The Council for Productive Forces Studies works in contact with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Administration of the President of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, ministries and agencies of Ukraine, public and entrepreneur organizations and does research at their order.
The following science schools were established and function at the Council:
– ‘Research into integrated development and accommodation of productive forces in Ukraine’;
– ‘Issues of sustainable development and technological-and-environmental safety’;
– ‘Studies of demography, employment and labour market’;
– ‘Studies of integrated, socio-economic and R&D development of the regions’;
– ‘Peculiarities of human capital reproduction; transformations of present-day settlement system in the context of territorial organization; forecasting the development of human capital and settlement system, as wells as further trends of social policy’;
– ‘Studies of social sphere of Ukraine and its regions’.
Research results proposed for introduction to economic practice:
– A long-term pattern (forecast) of the development and accommodation of productive forces of Ukraine and its regions (an integrated fundamental study);
– Issues of sustainable development and main lines of structural transformations in the economy of Ukraine (an integrated fundamental study);
– Theoretical principles of fixed-capital reproduction in the transition economy of Ukraine (a regional-branch aspect).
