The Institute for Market Problems, Economic and Ecological Research was founded on the basis of Odessa Branch of the NAS Institute of Economy in May, 1970.

Current research in the Institute is aimed at topical issues of deepening market reforms in the national economy, strategy and tactics of sustainable, balanced socio-economic and economic-and-ecological development of the Ukrainian Black Sea coastal zone.

Research priorities of the Institute are determined by innovatory trends and integrated economic studies of:

– theory and principles of restructuring economy complexes, developing the mechanisms of institutional transformations in the economy;

– economic policy and mechanisms of ensuring sustainable development and competitiveness of marine economic complex, tourist and recreational spheres;

– policy of institutional and organizational transformations and formation of economic relations in the sphere of nature resources management and environment security;

– strategy and mechanisms of improving the potential of the Ukrainian Black Sea Region and overcoming socio-economic disproportions in its development.

Renowned science schools work at the Institute:

– economics of nature resources management (NAS academician B. V. Burkinsky; Dr. Econ. professor S. K. Kharichkov; Dr. Econ. professor V. N. Stepanov);

– the market of transport services (Dr. Econ. M. I. Kotlubay);

– business development (Dr. Econ. professor A. I. Butenko).

Research results proposed for implementation:

– up-dating organizational and economic relations, their institutional and methodological maintenance in the sphere of nature management and resource-and ecological security of Ukraine;

– forming market structures and mechanisms for re-structuring the economy and its major sectors, substantiating their institutional and structural transformations;

– reproduction and maintenance of sustainable development of Ukrainian marine complex;

– restoring the national trade fleet as the major source of budget revenues and solving artificially made social problems;

– establishing the entrepreneurship sector of the national economy of Ukraine, including its socially-oriented elements aimed at ensuring modern advanced standards of living;

– strategic forecasting of sustainable development of large socio-economic and economic-and-ecological systems of regional and basin type.
