The Institute for Economic and Legal Research of NAS of Ukraine was founded in January 1992 according to the Resolution of the NAS Presidium ¹ 16 of 22.01.92 to deal with urgent issues of legal assistance to economic development at state and regional levels. In late 1996, the Institute incorporated its Luhansk Branch (NAS Presidium Resolution ¹ 1789 of 02.12.96).
The Institute carries out and coordinates fundamental economic and legal studies in the following areas: solution of theoretical and practical problems of economic law; government regulation of the economy; providing legal assistance to the formation and operation of mixed economy; economic and legal issues of socio-economic development of territorial systems; legal assistance to entrepreneurship, formation of new organizational and economic structures; economic and legal problems of preventing economic infringements; problems of legalization of shadow economy and economy decriminalization; economic and legal problems of the territories with special legal regime for economic activities; developing international economic links; economic and legal issues of regional ecology.
The institute has science schools in economic law, economics of cities and towns, system development of territories.
