The subjects of scientific research at the Institute of Industrial Economics cover a wide range of urgent issues. The tasks addressed by the Institute’s researchers can be roughly divided into several groups. They are: stabilization of production dynamics and financial-economic situation, industrial policy and mechanisms of its implementation, structural reforms in industry, activization of innovation and investment processes, government regulation of industrial development in transition economy, social-labour relations and social consequences of market changes in industry.
Within the framework of those research lines, some scientific schools have been formed and are working. They are: ‘Management of the economy and government regional policy’ (headed by NAS academician N. G. Chumachenko), ‘Efficiency of investment processes and structural changes’ (headed by NAS corresponding member M. I. Ivanov), ‘Social and economic problems in industry’ (headed by NAS academician O. I. Amosha).
Theoretical and applied results of the investigations are often used by Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the President Administration of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, by branch and regional managerial bodies when preparing draft laws and normative documents, developing regional and government concepts, making forecasts, working out programmes etc. The Institute has a great number of theoretical and applied results obtained in the process of investigation of such problems as structural and investment changes in the economy, management of the state sector in industry, economic and social security in the context of regional and branch development.
